Potty Training Vol. 1

So we decided while on vacation last month that we were going to try and start Peyton’s potty training.  Ideally, I wouldn’t start such a venture on vacay, but since it’s the only time we are with him for a week straight, Picture 323we gave it a whirl.  I was happy we waited to get his potty seat until we got to Florida because, to my surprise, their store had a Thomas the Tank potty seat.  I was completely elated!  I thought FOR SURE Peyton would potty on a Thomas seat.  So, we hyped it up about going potty while we were in Florida, and how he was such a big boy now and didn’t need diapers anymore, etc, etc, etc….

So, we did get him to sit on the potty.  The first time he sat down he actually did poop.  I called it a pooplet, because it was barely a poop, but hey I didn’t want to discredit his efforts.  So, he pooped before he peed, and that was alright.  So, then after that, every time he sat down he seemed to toot, and he kept saying, “I pooped!”  So, I tried to explain the difference between a poop and a toot!  I’ve learned conversations like these are certainly not uncommon when you have kids.

He never did go pee in the toilet, but at least it was a start and he was at least sitting on the potty.  I was happy.  It’s kind of funny the things you do to try and keep them sitting on the potty when in the training process.  I learned I am not all too bad at coming up with short little songs about random things, like a lighthouse.  There was a lighthouse in St. Augustine that he saw and really liked, so he thought Mommy needed to come up with a lighthouse song.  So, Mommy and Auntie Emily came up with this:

“It’s big and tall, and black & white              It shines a light so big and bright

IT’S THE LIGHTHOUSE….OH YES….IT’S THE LIGHTHOUSE….OH YES….

It has lots of stairs that go round and round, It makes you tired when you go up and down

IT’S THE LIGHTHOUSE….OH YES…..IT THE LIGHTHOUSE”

Such fun on the potty!!!  Stay tuned for more potty training adventures.

A fish called “Squirt”

Picture 187

Every time we go to Wal-Mart to do our grocery shopping, Peyton has to stop and see the fish.  So, on one of our last trips, Daddy on a whim decides to ask Peyton if he would like a fish.  Of course Peyton says “Yay, Yay, Yay!”  as he dances around in the cart.  So we pick out a fish he likes.  He got a pretty blue male beta.  We found him a nice bowl, a little decor for his new pad, and we were on our way.  I like fish, actually.  They aren’t like dogs that you have to constantly clean up after and Picture 184bathe.  They don’t bark or bother you at 4:30 in the morning because they need to pee.  They are just good pets. So, we ask Peyton what he was going to name is new fish friend, and he says, “Squirt.”  I believe that came from the baby turtle on Nemo because he has a Target magazine he reads on the potty (there is a thomas Train in it, so he thinks it is his Thomas magazine) and there is a picture of ole Squirt.  Every time we see the turtle, we say “there’s Squirt.”  So, meet our new pet fish, Squirt!

Happy Birthday America

We played, we ate, we saw fireworks....the normal 4th of July routine. Not that I am trying to be blahzay about the day. We had a lot of fun with our friends. We always do. Peyton and Jasmyn played in the pool and on the slip n' slide. We had a yummy dinner, then went to watch fireworks in Tomball. Peyton and Jasmyn were playing in the parking lot while we waited for the show to begin. Once the fireworks started, the kiddos loved them. You know how after a firework pops in the sky, you hear a "boom?" The kids started saying "BOOM" after they saw the fireworks. Afterwards, we all crashed! It was a fun, exciting day!!

Mommy's 30!!

ok, so this ost is a little late, but hey, sue me. Last Friday, July 2nd, was the BIG birthday, well so far anyway. I turned the big 3-0! Yes, I'm now 30. I don't feel 30 though. I will say it seems wierd to actually say I'm 30 though. I can no longer say I am 29 or that I am in my 20's. I am officially no longer "young." I'm not old yet, just no longer young. Quite honestly I would not go back. I am happy in my life and where I am right now. I have a beautiful family, and I love it!
Soooo, I happened to be off for my big day, so I took Peyton (along with friends, Leigh & Mathew with their kiddos, Madelyn & Tyler) to the Children's Museum. Peyton had never been before and I thought it would be fun. It was raining all day, but luckily when we got there, it let up long enough to at least get in the building. The kiddos had lots and lots of fun. We played with everything, went shopping in the grocery store, worked at a bank (and got a $20 kids bucks paycheck), ate popcorn....just had a good time. When we went to leave, it was POURING!! The brave night, Mathew, went to get the car for all of us. Thank you brave night for coming to our rescue. I tucked my camera under my shirt and we ran to the curb to get in. It took us about 2 1/2 hrs to get home (should've only taken about 45 min) because the feter roads were flooded and everyone was trying to get on the freeway. I just have to say this, too, but some people are just stupid. WHY, why, why would you take a brand new cadillac that doesn't even have plates yet down a road where you can't even see the curb and other stupid people have already managed to get their cars stalled out??!! I just don't understand some people. Anyway, we were supposed to have dinner with Mike, Lisa, & Jasmyn at 5:30 that night. Leigh kept apologizing because she thought I would be late, but we weren't. I finally get home and shortly after we leave for dinner. Little did I know, they had planned a surprise party for me at the restaurant. I walked into the front of the restaurant and looked to my right. I saw a woman who I thought looked like my Uncle's new wife (that I hadn't met yet, but have seen pic of), so I looked at her again, and said, "Bonnie?" She kind of stared at me like she didn't know who I was, so I said, "I'm Stephanie!" So I gave her a hug, being really surprised to have seen her there, but was oblivious to the thought that she might have been there for me. So, I look at Shaun and was like, "we should see if they want to put some tables together." He kept moving me along and I kept turning around to look at him. I kept talking about putting tables together, and they were like, OK, just keep moving. Anyway, so they opened the doors and I turned around from talking, and they all went, SURPRISE!! I SO wasn't expecting that!! What a fun day!!

Yay! A good day!

I went to pick Peyton up from Pat's house yesterday, and I asked my normal question as of late, "Were you a good boy today?" I was so proud when Pat said yes, that he was a very good boy today. We had no time-outs!! YAY!! So, being the proud Mommy that I was, I took my sweet boy to Target so he could get something special for being such a good boy and having no time-outs. So, I asked him what he would like to get, and he said, "Thomas shtickers." I was going to run him through the little dollar isle they have at target and let him pick something, but hey, stickers are cheap fun, so that worked with me. Unfortunately, I needed to pick up a few other things so we went walking around. By the time we left Target, we had stickers, thomas whistles, and a Thomas book. I did make him choose between the stickers and the the whistles, and he chose the whistles (but Mommy surprised him and bought the stickers too).

Blog frustration - PLEASE HELP

So this blog is really frustrating me. I can't seem to figure out how to get my pictures uploaded. Anyone have suggestions for this new blogger?

thomas, thomas, thomas...

So, we found Peyton two Thomas shirts during our last shopping outing. He has since, for the most part, decided that he wants to wear nothing but these 2 shirts, and I am afraid I have started a bad thing. See, before, we only had Thomas jammies. No big deal, he would change his clothes (mostly willingly), and we would go about our day. Now, I have a hard time even washing the two Thomas shirts he has because he always wants to wear them. Our conversation usually goes something like this:

Peyton: "I want blue Thomas"
Mommy: "Blue Thomas is dirty, we need to wash him."
Peyton: "NO WASH THOMAS!"
Mommy: "But Peyton it's dirty. We need to clean it."
Peyton" "Have food on it?"
Mommy: "Yes, it has food on it. Do you want to wear it to go night-night?"
Peyton: "Yeah"
Mommy" "ok, then when we get home, we can put it in the wash and clean it"
Peyton: "NO WASH" -
Mommy" "Yes, honey, we need to wash it. You can help me put it in the washer when we get home, and then you can wear it to go night-night. OK?"
Peyton: "OK"

Unfortunately, this is a daily conversation. I have noticed, though, that Miss Pat seems to be able to get him to wear everything that I can't (i.e....new shoes, clothes, whatever!), so all non-thomas clothing goes to Miss Pat's house so we actually get some use out of them. I even got him some bright orange Croc's for vacation so he would have something to wear on the beach. I wasn't sure he would wear them since he hasn't seemed to want to put on most new shoes we buy him. So, the clerk working the booth says they have those little "button" things that you can put in the holes of the shoes. So, I asked on a whim if he has any thomas the Train ones, and low and behold, he DID!! I was excited, because I thought for sure he would wear shoes with Thomas on them. Of course, once Peyton saw the buttons, he wanted to hold them. When he went down for his nap, I stuck the button in the shoes thinking I was set. Well, when he woke up, he wanted the buttons out of the shoes so he could hold them. So, the buttons still have not made it into the shoes, but luckily, after a little coaxing with a coco (lollipop), he is at least wearing his new shoes. Hey, you take what you can get.

Bad report

So I picked up Peyton from Miss Pat's (childcare) yesterday. When I got there, Peyton was crying and very fussy. So, you know, I am thinking this is going to be just a wonderful evening. Then Pat tells me that Peyton has been like this all day. Then said that he had kicked and hit this other little boy, Evan. Apparently he also threw something at him. She said he was completely unprovoked, that Peyton just stood there and chunked a little toy backpack at him. Who knows! This is the part about being a working Mommy that really bothers me. I don't like the idea that I am not there to correct him on the spot when he does things like this. I don't know what made him do it, although I can say that Peyton bit into the inside of my thigh (you know, right where all the fat is...yeah, it hurt. He drew blood)the other day while we were playing and "tickling" his friend that was over. So, I somewhat think he is just trying to play and doesn't know quite how to engage the target that he wants as his playmate. I think some of this also stems from the fact that he is not around very many kids his age on a daily basis. In an case, it is not acceptable. So, we threatened him with his Thomas movies that he usually watches at home. If we got another bad report like that, then no Thomas. Today I called at lunch to check on him, and she said he is doing great! Never underestimate the power of Thomas....

Stinky?

So I just finished my workout involving jogging, walking, lunging, and "tires" outside in this ridiculous heat. So I come in the house and sit on the couch. Not a few minutes later Peyton says, "Stinky," and I said "yes, Mommy's stinky." So I guess that prompted him to "check" Mommy to see if I was stinky. He looked behind me saying, "I check, I check," lifted my shirt and says, "Nope, not stinky." Gotta love kids.

playtime with friends

Sunday we had a play date with old friends, Mike, Lisa & Jasmyn, and also new friends, Stephanie, Jeff & Bryce.  I told Peyton that Bryce was into Thomas the Train also, so we were going to share our trains with him when we played.  He very quickly said, “NO BRYCE!”  I think the child needs more play dates to better learn the sharing aspect of play.

We had a lot of fun though.  The kids played in the kiddiePicture 064 pool and on the Buzz Lightyear slip n’ slide.  Mike had to “throw” each of them on the slide since none of the three kiddos were grasping the concept to run and fall on yourPicture 073 belly to slide.  They loved it!!   Unfortunately, we had been at the Mall just before coming to their house, and Peyton drank a little too much of a cherry icee.  Apparently that doesn’t mix well with sliding around on your tummy (Ewe).  I must say that I was happy to see that Peyton actually put his swim trunks on since lately we can’t seem to put anything article of clothing on him that doesn’t have remnants of Thomas on them.

So after all the fun, we all ate fajitas and had brownies (with sprinkles of course) and ice cream.  Peyton and Mommy made the brownies……they were yummy!! Picture 059

Crawfish Boil

So yesterday we had our first Crawfish boil at our house. Shaun had a new friend, a fellow Gator, Carl & his girlfriend, Elena, and we also had our friends, Mike & Lisa, and their daughter Jasmyn over. Everyone chipped in and brought different components for the boil. Peyton wasn't sure about the crawfish, but he wanted to sit in his little scooby chair right next to them in the kiddie pool. He wouldn't touch them when we asked, but as soon as we weren't looking, he started grabbing them. He would hold them for a second, then throw them back in and laugh. So funny. Once his buddy, Jasmyn, arrived they both sat next to them, then went off and played together. It was a fun day. We also grilled ribs and chicken. The chicken was for me, and oddly enough I didn't even end up eating it. Oh well...whatcha gonna do??

All new to me

So I am trying my hand at this blogging craze. It's all new to me so bear with me as I learn how exactly to do all this. On the other hand, I am very excited to have somewhere to gush over my 2-yr son, Peyton. He is so special and such a joy to my husband and me. Hopefully I will get to post regularly and remember all the fun stuff to share with you.

Ok, well, I guess there is my first post. So...until next time.
